Structure of the Board and activities:

    Roles:

    • Chair – Oversee the board. (Greenheart staffer)
      • This role is taken by a Greenheart full-time staff member in the Outreach department.
      • This staff member ensures that the mission and vision of Greenheart is being followed, brand standards are met, budget is followed, and goals are adhered to. This role is more of a mentor position than official “chair.”
      • Should the chair miss a meeting, then it is the responsibility of the Vice Chair to keep them updated.
    • Vice Chair – Supports and acts as lead from alumni. Role term is 2 years long.
      • This role is taken by an Alumni Council member who has applied and has been chosen.
      • This role ensures that all other roles are on top of their responsibilities, and goals and deadlines are being met. They are the leader of the council, and act more of a Chair than Vice Chair as the Chair is a mentor position.
      • Should the Vice Chair miss a meeting, they must keep the Chair and Secretary up to date on progress.
      • This role is a 2-year tenure. They can re-apply for this role after 4 years absence.
    • Treasurer – Oversees budget. Role term is 2 years long.
      • This role is taken by an Alumni Council member who has applied and has been chosen.
      • The Treasurer oversees the budget for the Alumni Council. This includes tracking how expenses have been used, if donations have been received, and from whom, etc.
      • Because this council member is not a staff member, they will not be able to handle the money directly but will need to keep track of costs and donations, and work with the Chair to disperse funds, as needed.

    • *OPEN* Marketer – Oversees communication and support marketing needs. Role term is 2 years long.
      • This role is taken by an Alumni Council member who has applied and has been chosen.
      • The Marketing member oversees Marketing efforts implemented by the council. This includes the monthly newsletter, any collateral that is sent to alumni, ensuring that the correct brand standards are being used for virtual and in-person events, and getting Greenheart’s name “out there.”
      • Because this council member is not a staff member, they will not be able to use internal marketing tools (e.g. for newsletters), but must work with the Chair to disperse communications, as needed.
      • This role is a 2-year tenure. They can re-apply for this role after 2 years absence.
    • *OPEN* Secretary – Responsible for keeping notes, and managing agenda. Role term is 1 year long with the option to reapply for a second year.
      • This role is taken by an Alumni Council member who has applied and has been chosen.
      • The Secretary oversees the meeting agenda and notes. They must be clear and actionable. The Secretary works very closely with the Vice Chair to maintain and update the agenda. If the Secretary is absent, they must keep Vice Chair updated.

    • *OPEN* Researcher – Responsible for researching speakers and opportunities for alumni. Role term is 1 year long with the option to reapply for a second year.
      • This role is taken by an Alumni Council member who has applied and has been chosen.

Council members actively invite others to join us in fulfilling our mission of creating a more peaceful, sustainable future for all. You are continuously building up a network of support within your community and expanding your boundaries to work with people outside of your immediate circle. You celebrate the successes of your peers and fellow Global Leaders. Leaders know that true collaboration requires compromise, respect, and reaching common-ground.

    Cultural Exchange and Greenheart Champions

We’re looking for individuals that confidently live out our mission of connecting people and planet. Council members fully utilize every opportunity to grow the Greenheart family and share the powerful stories of fellow Greenhearts creating change in their communities. You are passionate about the work that Greenheart does and want to utilize your unique skills to push us further.

    Cross-cultural Curiosity

We are building a Council of open-minded, compassionate individuals who desire to understand and explore new cultures inside and out. You want to dive right in and forge cross-cultural relationships by being an active listener and observer. You are constantly reevaluating preconceived notions and stereotypes. Your passion to learn from and connect with others is stronger than the discomfort that may emerge from challenging cross-cultural situations.

    Advocates in Action

Our Council members are informed and empowered. You use your voice to advocate for social good on a local and global scale. You are enlivened by opportunities to speak to your representatives about creating change and securing equitable resources for overlooked people groups and communities. Greenheart seeks innovative thinkers who are able to come up with fresh ideas and advocate for cultural exchange.

Most importantly, we are looking for Alumni Council members who exemplify Greenheart’s cultural values, which can be found here: https://greenheart.org/about/
