Alumni Global Council

    After 6 years, the Alumni Council is going through a make over. The Greenheart Alumni Council has transitioned from a project-based model, where members collaborated on a single global initiative each year, to a dynamic Junior Board structure focused on long-term impact. Now, Council members play an active role in shaping alumni programming, communications, events, and professional development. This shift allows for deeper engagement, stronger leadership opportunities, and a more sustained connection to Greenheart’s mission of connecting people and planet.

    Structure of the Board and activities:

    Roles:

    • Chair – Oversee the board. (Greenheart staffer)
    • Vice Chair – Supports and acts as lead from alumni. Role term is 2 years long.
    • Treasurer – Oversees budget. Role term is 2 years long.
    • Marketer – Oversees communication and support marketing needs. Role term is 2 years long.
    • Secretary – Responsible for keeping notes, and managing agenda. Role term is 1 year long with the option to reapply for a second year.
    • Researcher – Responsible for researching speakers and opportunities for alumni. Role term is 1 year long with the option to reapply for a second year.

    Meeting frequency:

    • Year kick-off  
    • Once a month as a council 
    • As needed for specific initiatives 

    Programming and content:

    • Virtual Meet-ups: Quarterly (once every 3 months)
    • Newsletter: Sent monthly
    • In-person meet-ups: As planned
    • Monitor LinkedIn and Alumni groups: Weekly

     

    Alumni Council members play an integral role in furthering the Greenheart mission by:

    • Spreading the Greenheart brand in their local communities
    • Supporting Greenheart donor engagement
    • Building up a strong alumni network in their regions
    • Identifying and strengthening relationships with other changemakers around the world.
    • Becoming a proud Greenheart brand ambassador

    Council members actively invite others to join us in fulfilling our mission of creating a more peaceful, sustainable future for all. You are continuously building up a network of support within your community and expanding your boundaries to work with people outside of your immediate circle. Council members fully utilize every opportunity to grow the Greenheart family and share the powerful stories of fellow Greenhearts creating change in their communities. You are passionate about the work that Greenheart does and want to utilize your unique skills to push us further.

    We are building a Council of open-minded, compassionate individuals who desire to understand and explore new cultures inside and out. You want to dive right in and forge cross-cultural relationships by being an active listener and observer. You are constantly reevaluating preconceived notions and stereotypes. Your passion to learn from and connect with others is stronger than the discomfort that may emerge from challenging cross-cultural situations.

    Advocates in Action

    Our Council members are informed and empowered. You use your voice to advocate for social good on a local and global scale. You are enlivened by opportunities to speak to your representatives about creating change and securing equitable resources for overlooked people groups and communities. Greenheart seeks innovative thinkers who are able to come up with fresh ideas and advocate for cultural exchange.

    What is included in the Alumni Global Council?

    • Experience acting in a board-capacity.
    • Exposure through spotlights on our websites and marketing materials

    • Fundamentals of fundraising Greenheart training and certificate
    • Professional development webinars led by Greenheart staff members. Topics include fundraising, graphic design, crafting your digital brand, and more.


    What am I committing to?

    The Alumni Global Council is not a full-time commitment, but active and engaged participation is key to creating a meaningful experience. Council members commit to:

    • Active participation in monthly meetings for the board.
    • Supporting plans and content for alumni, whether that is an in-person event, virtual or newsletter content.
    • Partnering with Greenheart to create marketing materials
    • Creating social media campaigns and identifying influencers
    • Writing letters soliciting donations for Greenheart Odyssey initiatives from the Greenheart community and potential donors
    • Sharing responsibility for creating a supportive, collaborative Alumni Global Council
    • Supporting our Odyssey program initiatives through solicited videos and letters
    • Hosting networking events for local Greenheart alumni and community members interested in learning more about Greenheart. Council members will use networking events to organize community service opportunities and activate a group of volunteers

    How long is my Alumni Global Council membership?

    Members must commit to the Alumni Global Council for 1-2 years, depending on the role. Alumni are eligible to re-apply for the Council, depending on the role you previously had and a few other considerations.

    What is the technology requirement?

    At Greenheart we understand that equal access and equity of technology has its limitations. However, in order to foster an active and engaged Global Council, it is necessary that our members have adequate internet access to participate in monthly online video chats.

     

  • Launch of Alumni Council will take place March 24th with various positions having 1 or 2 year tenures.

    • All applicants should be 18 or older.
    • Applicants must have participated in one of the following Greenheart leadership initiatives: Jr. Greenheart Global Leaders Conference, Greenheart Global Leaders Conference, Greenheart Exchange Ambassador Scholarship, Greenheart Impact Grants or one of our programs in or outside of the United States.
